Woohoo, a new forum...and I get to break it in. :D
Okay, this is not a major issue or anything, but it is rather irksome. It started a month or two ago.
My system is clean (viruses, etc.). I'm running WinXP, Office 2000 Small Business, and using IE6.
When I right-mouse click a JPG image and "Save Picture As...", the name of the image is put in my "File name" text box as (for example) image.jpe. That's right, jpe instead of jpg. So, I have to click on it and change the last character -- most annoying.
(GIF files work just fine)
So, anyone have any quick fixes!?
In the 'Save Picture' dialog box you have 'File name' and 'Save as type'. Which one do you see the 'jpe extension in, in the 'File name' area? In the 'Save as type' do you see JPEG [*.jpg]? What happens if you save the image w/o changing the ext. and then navigate to where you saved the image, right click, and choose 'Properties'?
I hate to respond with so many questions, but I'm trying to understand what is going on here ;).

Yeah, I just blew it off as an IE annoyance. Speaking of annoyances, I betcha annoyances.org has something on this.
I usually just rename the extention manually :p
save a graphics file as .jpe and see if it opens in some grphics software. you could tap the registrt if this was the case.

Yes, the "save as type" is (as it should be) on JPEG.
When I go ahead and save it as image.jpe, it won't open in my image software programs -- I almost always use Paint Shop Pro.
Didn't think about checking http://www.annoyances.org -- I'll have to check it out later.
I thought about tapping into the registry...but am always a little hesitant to do so. If you know where to look, let me know and I'll see what I can dig up. I may try this on my own later...when I have some spare time.
From the Windows Explorer select Tools, Folder Options - File Types. Peruse down to the JPEG File Type and click Advanced.
On your PC the default extension may be set to JPE for all JPEG file types. Change the default to JPG, save - you may have to reboot but then you should be ready to go.
